Born out of a love for color and life, the Okapi Gallery, with its warm-toned floor and design are intended to generate interest amongst visitors, encouraging them to discover the myriad forms of art inside. Its indoor and outdoor art forms are a celebration of art, design and color, as well as to functionally foster an environment where a love of art in all visages can be explored by the public.
An ode to a love affair with art over two decades, the Okapi Gallery has art forms that the mid-east sub-continent has never seen before. UAE’s first and only World Art Gallery has canvasses, water-colors, mixed-media, photography, sculpture, furniture, art and installations from across six continents. Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, North America, and South America are all represented to acclaim in the gallery.
The Okapi Gallery at the World’s tallest Hotel – The JW Marriott Marquis Dubai, although relatively modest in size, is lofty and ambitious in its intentions. The contemporary minimalistic designed art exhibit space at Business Bay, Dubai has been carefully created as an urban oasis. This aligns to our goal of enabling people to socialize and gather in places in which they feel comfortable, safe and through designed public spaces.
The Okapi World Art Gallery has a section for original oil on canvas & acrylic on canvas paintings. There is a section with metal & ceramic sculptures – some life sized. The highlight of the gallery is a section of volcanic rock hand-made fountains which is part of the Exotic Asia section which has artefacts from Japan, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore & Sri Lanka. Our exclusive sections include works from Sergio Bustamante, Mexico & Dale Mathis, Las Vegas, USA. We are planning an artist-in-residence program where 3/4 artists annually will be painting live in the gallery. They will also conduct art-courses and classes for school children in Dubai as a Community Responsibility Program from Okapi.
Designs harmonized by Leonardo Diaz-Borioli of Estudio 3.14, Guadalajara as rough sketches was the concept behind the Okapi Gallery at the JW Marriott Marquis Dubai as an “Opened Box” that unfolds, opens and invites the visitors inside. Using trapezoidal shapes and with a careful control of perspective, vanishing points are emphasized, achieving a dynamic and fluid space that awakens imagination while stimulating creativity. Package, restoration and storage will serve as additional cultural spaces for visitors to understand the stages that an art piece goes through in order to get to its specific destination. Leonardo Diaz-Borioli is a truly blessed Architect and his rough sketches christened “The Genesis” are the centre-piece of the Okapi World Art Gallery, Dubai.
